History

The Korean Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (KSNM) was founded in Seoul, Korea on April 30, 1993. Representatives from major hospitals in Korea attended the first meeting of the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Motility Study (KSGMS), the former society of the Korean Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, and elected Sung Kuk Park, M.D., as the first president of the society. Under the name of KSGMS, the first annual symposium was held and the first issue of the Journal of KSGMS was published on July 9, 1994. With the increasing need for a strong association of physicians and scientists with an interest in the study of gastrointestinal motility, the Korean Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (KSNM) was founded in Seoul, Korea on November 23, 1996. Prof. Kyoo Wan Choi was elected president at the same meeting.
International scientific cooperation is an important goal of KSNM. The Asian-Pacific PG-course on GI motility (APPGM) has been held in Korea regularly since 2001. KSNM hosted the 21st International Group for the Study of Neurogastroenterology and Motility in 2007 in Jeju, Korea. And it successfully held the 1st Biennial Congress of Asian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association (ANMA 2009) in Seoul from April 2-4, 2009.
